Derivatives

Derivatives are financial contracts whose value derives from the value of another underlying instrument. Usually these underlying instruments are other traded assets, indexes or rates. Derivatives can be used for both investment and hedging purposes.

Some derivatives are traded on international exchanges however most of the derivative trading happens in the over-the-counter (OTC) market.
