Presentation of environmental actions for 2012

Bank of Cyprus Group, as the leading financial institution in Cyprus, is making constant efforts to contribute to and actively support not just the local economy, but also the broader socioeconomic environment in which it operates, contributing to a variety of areas such as health, education, culture and the environment.

Bank of Cyprus, having proven its green consciousness for the protection of the environment through years of progress and meaningful actions, presented its key environmental actions for 2012 at a press conference on Wednesday 18 January.

The retail banking General Manager of Bank of Cyprus, Mr. Charis Pouangare placed special emphasis on the ‘Green Loans,’ three modern funding programs which include loans for housing, purchase of eco-friendly cars, and set up of photovoltaic systems.

Furthermore, he announced that the Bank would this year assist in the prevention and extinguishing of fires, with a donation of €100,000 for the purchase of 5 additional fire trucks, the delivery of which will take place beginning of February. He also noted that in the second quarter of this year, the cleaning of the historical centers of Larnaca and Paphos would take place; an action that began in 2011 with the Municipalities of Nicosia and Limassol.

Additionally, Mr. Pouangare stressed that the Bank’s Annual Report has been in circulation solely in electronic form since last year, an initiative that will also be applied in the future, as an effort to conserve both paper and energy. Finally, he mentioned the creation of a microsite, www.bankofcyprus.com.cy/environment, which contains details for every one of the Bank’s green actions, aiming to better inform the public.

Bank of Cyprus has once again committed itself to actively contribute to the protection of the environment and establish itself as a ‘Green’ Company by adopting practical methods and taking effective measures in all aspects of its social and business activity.
