Bernard Kouchner at the inaugural event of Harvard Club Cyprus
The Board of Directors of the Harvard University Alumni of Cyprus, is proud to announce the inaugural event of their club, to take place on the 5th of December 2011, with the support of the Bank of Cyprus.
The theme of the event is:
How the Strategic Interests of the European Union are being recalibrated by two concurrent developments, namely:
- The discovery of potentially significant quantities of natural gas and other carbon fuels in the region of Eastern Mediterranean
- The sudden changes in the regimes of many Arab countries of the immediate and wider region
The key note speaker of the event will be the ex Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of France, Dr Bernard Kouchner.
Dr Kouchner is an ex professor/lecturer of Harvard University.
Dr Kouchner, a well known international political personality, was born in 1939 in Avignon France, and served as minister to French right wing governments as well as socialist governments at various times. Recently he was Minister of Foreign Affairs of France from May 2007 to November 2010. He was appointed the first Special Representative by the Secretary General of the UN at Kosovo. He is a doctor and founder of “Doctors of the World” and co-founder of “the Association of Doctors without Borders”.
Bernard Kouchner will be introduced by former Minister of Foreign Affairs and former European Commissioner, Marcos Kyprianou.
Kouchner’s speech will be followed by a panel discussion by journalists Amir Bar Shalom, Israel’s Chanel war correspondent; Fanis Papathanasiou, a journalist for Hellenic Public Television (ERT) in Athens; Andreas Paraschos, chief editor of Kathimerini newspaper; Demetris Georgiades, chief financial officer for Politis newspaper; and Alexandros Michaelides, Professor of Finance at the University of Cyprus. The discussion will be moderator by Ambassador Sotos Zachaios, former permanent secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The event will take place at the Bank of Cyprus Headquarters at Ay. Paraskevi, on Monday December 5th, 2011, and it is expected to be participated, amongst others, by personalities from neighbouring countries.
