The Bank of Cyprus:

20MW power generators to enhance the EAC system

The tragic events of July 11th which cost the life of 13 stout-hearted men - to the families of whom we wholeheartedly express our condolences - have caused us all unlimited sorrow.

Further to the loss of our 13 fellow citizens - a loss which shall never be compensated - the tragic developments have an impact both on our daily life and on the Cyprus economy in general.

Therefore, the Bank of Cyprus has obtained 20 MW power generators in order to directly contribute to the overall effort to restore the problem caused after the destruction of the Vasilikos Power Station.

During his visit at the Head Offices of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, Mr. Theodoros Aristodemou, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Cyprus, informed Mr. Charis Thrasou, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the EAC, of the Group’s offering.

After expressing his sorrow for the tragic events of July 11th which cost the life of 13 fellow citizens, Mr. Aristodemou expressed his condolences to the families of the young people who died so unjustly and stressed that at such times there is no place for words but only for deeds and that at such moments, all together and each one separately should contribute to immediately resolving the problems which have been created from the destruction of the Vasilikos Power Station and added: «Further to the measures taken from the very first moment (suspension of the use of air conditioning systems, switching off of unnecessary lighting, etc.), the Bank of Cyprus proceeded directly with the purchase of 20 MW power generators.

The 10MW power generators shall be used for the Bank’s premises and systems, discharging in this way the Electricity Authority’s systems.

The additional generators of 10 MW shall be offered to the EAC for free for as long as necessary to be used as the EAC considers fit so we can help serve the Cyprus society».

Lastly, Mr. Aristodemou pointed out that with these 20 MW, the Bank of Cyprus contributes a little bit towards the effort to solve the energy problem, which the country is facing.

In his turn, Mr. Thrasou thanked the Management of the Bank of Cyprus for this initiative and informed both the Management of the Bank of Cyprus and media representatives that “these units shall be installed immediately in order to assist in dealing with demand”.

In addition, he pointed that he is touched that in these difficult times, big Organisations understand the magnitude of the disaster and assist in any way in order to alleviate the problem. With this opportunity, he appealed to all Organisations and companies that can provide any sort of assistance, to contact the Management of the EAC in order to add more generators to the titanic effort of the Authority to continue serving consumers.

Lastly, the Chairman of the EAC, Mr. Charis Thrasou, stated that we should all understand the seriousness of the situation and contribute a little bit to the effort which is being made to rebuild the pride of Cyprus, the Vasilikos Power Station.
