Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre

The Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre was founded in cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus in 1998.
Our contribution to the Centre’s operations and improvements to the Centre
Up to the end of 2009, Bank of Cyprus had paid around €38,3 million to construct, equip, upgrade and run the Centre, making this the largest donation ever made in Cyprus.
In order to deal with the challenges it faces, the Centre has expanded and upgraded the diagnostic and therapeutic methods, systems and equipment used. A third linear accelerator has already been added (with a 380m2 extension in the basement to house it) and the other two linear accelerators have been replaced, as have other systems and equipment. The cost of these works was €9.6 million.
Multi-annual investment plan: Bank of Cyprus has approved additional financing of around €13,5 million for the subsequent phases of the programme.
The Centre’s mission is to:
- Treat and handle cancer by providing state-of-the-art services
- Collaborate with public hospitals, private clinics and patient care associations
- Participate in cancer prevention and early diagnosis programmes
- Develop research and training programmes
- Develop and foster scientific ties with recognised oncology centres abroad
- Become a referral centre for the wider geographical area.
The Centre in operation
Its contribution: In 2010 the Centre marked its 12th year of operation, having treated over 20,000 people. Each month, the Centre treats an average of about 170 new patients, and each day between 350 and 450 patients use its various facilities.
In July 2007 the Centre secured its quality accreditation from the largest accreditation organisation for hospitals in Europe, and it is listed among the most outstanding hospitals for operating and quality standards. In March 2010 the Centre was re-evaluated by the accreditation body and the results were excellent. The Centre is the first hospital in Cyprus and Greece that has been accredited and it remains the only one in Cyprus with such quality accreditation.
